CRECCOM Showcases Innovation and Organisational Resilience at 2026 National NGO Day
Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) is participating in the 2026 National NGO Day being held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) Grounds in Lilongwe.
The event is being held under the theme, “Doing More with Less: Partnerships, Innovation and Efficiency for Inclusive Development,” bringing together non-governmental organisations, development partners, government institutions and other stakeholders to reflect on the contribution of civil society to Malawi’s development.
National NGO Day provides organisations with an opportunity to showcase their work, exchange experiences and explore ways of strengthening partnerships, innovation and efficiency at a time when the development sector is facing an increasingly constrained financing environment.
At its pavilion, CRECCOM is showcasing its work and experience across its 7 thematic pillars institutional strengthening, education, gender, child and youth development, climate resilience, health, and social accountability.
The organisation is highlighting how community mobilisation, participatory approaches, social and behaviour change communication, research and evidence generation are being used across its programmes to support communities and strengthen development outcomes.
The Guest of Honour, Ms. Rebecca Adda-Dontoh, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malawi, visited the CRECCOM pavilion where she interacted with the organisation’s team and learned more about its programmes, approaches and institutional sustainability strategies.
During the interaction, Ms. Adda-Dontoh showed particular interest in how CRECCOM is responding to the changing development financing environment, including the effects of reductions in USAID funding.
CRECCOM Programmes Manager, Linice Sanga, explained that alongside strengthening partnerships and diversifying its funding base, the organisation has been investing in its social enterprise, CRECOMEX, as part of efforts to enhance institutional sustainability.
CRECOMEX operates several income-generating services, including a conference facility, restaurant, car hire services, real estate and consultancy services. Revenue generated through these ventures contributes towards supporting CRECCOM’s operations and strengthening the organisation’s ability to remain resilient during periods of reduced external funding.
Ms. Adda-Dontoh expressed appreciation for the approach, noting the significance of organisations exploring innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms in the current development environment.
CRECCOM’s participation in the 2026 National NGO Day closely reflects this year’s theme. As development financing becomes increasingly constrained, local organisations are being challenged to strengthen efficiency, build strategic partnerships, innovate and diversify their resource base while continuing to deliver meaningful results for communities.
For CRECCOM, institutional sustainability goes beyond maintaining operations. It is about ensuring that the organisation can continue supporting communities, generating evidence, strengthening local systems and implementing development interventions even as the funding landscape evolves.
The organisation continues to combine partnerships, community-centred programming, research, communication and social enterprise approaches in strengthening its long-term sustainability.
The 2026 National NGO Day is organised by the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) in collaboration with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA).
