CRECCOM Showcases Innovation and Organisational Resilience at 2026 National NGO Day

Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) is participating in the 2026 National NGO Day at the Bingu International Convention Centre Grounds in Lilongwe, showcasing its contribution to Malawi’s development and its efforts to strengthen organisational sustainability in a changing funding environment.

The event is being held under the theme “Doing More with Less: Partnerships, Innovation and Efficiency for Inclusive Development.” It brings together non-governmental organisations, government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to share experiences, demonstrate results and explore approaches for sustaining development impact.

At its pavilion, CRECCOM is showcasing its work across six thematic areas: Education, Gender, Youth Development, Climate Change, Health and Social Accountability.

Guest of Honour Hon. Mary Thom Navicha, Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, visited the CRECCOM pavilion and interacted with the team on the organisation’s programme portfolio. Navicha currently serves as Malawi’s Minister responsible for Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare.

Particular attention was given to CRECCOM’s Cash Plus interventions in social protection, where cash transfers are complemented by additional support designed to strengthen household resilience, livelihoods, agency and pathways towards greater economic self-reliance.

Through social protection programmes such as SP-GEAR, CRECCOM works with Social Cash Transfer Programme participants through interventions that combine community mobilisation, livelihoods strengthening, gender-responsive programming, skills development and social and behaviour change approaches.

The Minister was also briefed on CRECCOM’s education portfolio, which includes interventions supporting foundational learning, girls’ education, inclusive education, community participation and improved learning environments.

These programmes demonstrate CRECCOM’s broader approach of addressing development challenges through integrated interventions rather than working within isolated sectors.

The CRECCOM pavilion was also visited by Ms. Rebecca Adda-Dontoh, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malawi, who engaged the organisation’s team on its programmes and institutional sustainability.

During the interaction, she showed particular interest in how CRECCOM is navigating the changing development financing environment, including reductions in traditional donor funding.

CRECCOM Programmes Manager Linice Sanga explained that the organisation has been strengthening its sustainability through CRECOMEX, its social enterprise.

CRECOMEX provides a range of commercial services, including conference facilities, restaurant services, car hire, real estate and consultancy services. Income generated through these services contributes towards supporting CRECCOM’s operations and reducing dependence on external project funding.

The discussion reflected the National NGO Day theme by highlighting how local organisations can combine development programming with innovation, partnership-building and resource diversification to strengthen institutional resilience.

CRECCOM continues to use community mobilisation, participatory approaches, social and behaviour change communication, research and evidence generation, strategic partnerships and social enterprise to contribute towards inclusive and sustainable development in Malawi.

The 2026 National NGO Day is organised by the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) in collaboration with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA).
