“I used to be too shy to speak in public, but now I can even facilitate sessions with confidence. The She Creates Change films have taught me leadership, collaboration, and entrepreneurship—and I am already using these skills to support myself.” — Leticia Salijeni, 16, Form 4, Thekerani CDSS.
At just 16 years old, Leticia Salijeni from Khozombe Village, TA Nsabwe in Thyolo, has already begun rewriting her story. A Form 4 learner at Thekerani CDSS, Leticia once struggled with shyness that kept her from participating in class or engaging with her peers.
That began to change when she joined She Creates Change sessions, implemented by CRECCOM with support from Room to Read. Watching the inspiring films, Leticia saw stories of girls who overcame barriers through leadership, collaboration, and resilience. For her, the turning point was realizing that her voice mattered too.

“Through the films and discussions, I gained the courage to start speaking in front of others,” she says. “Now I can even stand up and facilitate group sessions confidently.” The sessions also opened her eyes to entrepreneurship, especially after learning from Trang and Dewmini’s stories. Inspired, Leticia started a small business selling freezes (frozen juice treats). From her earnings, she is able to cover her basic school needs, such as notebooks, pens, and other supplies, without depending entirely on her family.
Leticia is proud of her progress—not only in business, but also in personal growth. “I never thought I could be a leader, but now I know I can guide others, share ideas, and support my education at the same time,” she says with a smile. Her story is proof that with the right inspiration and support, even the shyest student can grow into a confident leader and entrepreneur.
