At just 16 years old, Steveria Bwanali from Thekerani CDSS has taken her first bold steps toward independence and self-reliance. Like many girls her age, she faced challenges in meeting basic school needs. But her outlook shifted after participating in the She Creates Change project, implemented by CRECCOM and funded by Room to Read.
During the sessions, Steveria was particularly inspired by Trang’s story, a young girl who used creativity and determination to start her own small business. Motivated, Steveria decided to try baking as a way to support herself.

“Since I began, I am able to make between K24,000 and K28,000 a day from my business,” she says proudly. “My dream is to help my parents pay my school fees when I reach Form Two. Already, I can buy sanitary pads, notebooks, pens, and even shoes without depending on anyone.”
Through the She Creates Change project, Steveria has gained more than business skills. She has developed confidence, determination, and a sense of responsibility, seeing firsthand how resilience and creativity can transform challenges into opportunities.
