“I used to keep my talent hidden. Now I’m not afraid to share my music with the world.” — Isaac Matita, 18, Form 3 student at Namalowe CDSS, Mulanje.
At 18 years old, Isaac Matita from Namalowe CDSS in Mulanje never imagined that his hidden passion for music could one day become his path to a brighter future. Living with his sister, Isaac often kept his gift for singing to himself, unsure if it was worth pursuing.
That changed when he joined the She Creates Change project, implemented by CRECCOM with support from Room to Read. During one of the school-based sessions, Isaac was struck by Naifat’s story—a young girl who discovered her talent and embraced it with determination.
“Her story made me realize that hiding my talent was the same as wasting it,” Isaac says. “I told myself it was time to be brave and start working on my music.” With renewed confidence, Isaac reached out to a friend who began teaching him the guitar.
Step by step, he learned the basics, and soon, he was composing songs that blended his voice with the instrument. The experience lit a fire in him: he now dreams of learning the piano and even recording his first song in a studio.
“My dream is to become a good musician who can play instruments and lead my own band,” he says with a smile. “I love Lawi here in Malawi, and internationally I admire Jim Reeves.
One day, I will reach that level.” For Isaac, the She Creates Change films were not just stories on a screen—they were a mirror showing him his own potential and a springboard into a new chapter of self-expression.
