CRECCOM participated in the African Union Centre for Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa (AU CIEFFA) #AfricaEducatesHer monitoring mission held in Lilongwe from 5–7 November 2025. The mission, conducted under the theme “Strengthening inclusive education and advancing girls’ and young women’s access to quality learning,” brought together national and regional stakeholders to review progress and strengthen collaboration on girls’ education. It was led by Grace Milner, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, with participation from officials from the Ministry of Gender, AU CIEFFA representatives, development partners, and civil society organisations.
Key participants included Ms. Grace Kafulatira, AU CIEFFA Focal Point for Malawi; Ms. Martha Kalumbi from the Ministry of Gender; Ms. Lorato Modongo, Mr. Ian Kaliwo, and Dr. Caseley Stephens from AU CIEFFA and ESTI; Ms. Rosette Nanyanzi from Uganda; and Ms. Mundia Namukolo Situmbeko from Girls Not Brides. Discussions centred on the implementation of the campaign, education policy frameworks, and country-level progress and challenges in advancing girls’ education.

During the experience-sharing session, CRECCOM presented its interventions supporting girls’ education in Malawi. The organisation highlighted its psychosocial support through mentorship and counselling, which helps girls build emotional resilience and confidence. CRECCOM also emphasised its school retention and readmission efforts aimed at ensuring adolescent mothers and at-risk girls remain in or return to school. The organisation further showcased its EdTech contribution through the BEFIT programme, demonstrating how digital tablets are improving foundational literacy and numeracy for girls.
Additionally, CRECCOM shared its video-based life skills teaching approach, which builds girls’ confidence, assertiveness, self-awareness, and decision-making abilities. It also highlighted complementary learning pathways designed to provide flexible and inclusive options so that no girl is left behind.

As the mission concluded, CRECCOM reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community and school support systems, promoting gender-responsive education, and ensuring that girls and young women in Malawi have equitable access to quality learning. The #AfricaEducatesHer campaign remained a vital platform for sustained advocacy, accountability, and collective action across the continent.
