The Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM) proudly joined the United States Embassy in Malawi in celebrating the 249th Independence Day of the United States of America. The event, hosted at the US Embassy in Lilongwe, brought together partners, diplomats, government officials, and civil society leaders to commemorate the historic day.
CRECCOM's Executive Director, Alinafe Ireen Chibwana, represented the organization and had a moment of interaction with the US Embassy’s Chargé d'Affaires, Amy Diaz. The occasion reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the United States and Malawian organizations working towards social and economic development.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebration, Chibwana remarked: “The US government, through various initiatives, has been instrumental in advancing development work in Malawi. As CRECCOM, we value this collaboration—particularly in empowering communities, promoting gender equity, and supporting youth and education.”
She added; “Events like this remind us of the strength of international cooperation. It is a celebration not just of American independence, but also of shared democratic values and partnerships that improve lives around the world.”
The US National Day, also known as Independence Day, is traditionally celebrated on July 4, marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. However, the US Embassy in Malawi observed the celebration earlier, on May 29, 2025, to accommodate diplomatic scheduling.
As a Malawian NGO dedicated to community empowerment and sustainable development, CRECCOM’s presence at the event highlighted its ongoing relationship with the US government and other international partners.
