On the sidelines of the 2025 United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Network for Education Systems Transformation (NEST) unveiled the first results of its groundbreaking research on education systems transformation. The research highlights opportunities and barriers to systemic change toward a breadth of skills across NEST’s ten local contexts: India, Pakistan, Jordan, Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, South Africa, Chile, Peru, and Mexico.

The event brought together education leaders, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe to reflect on NEST’s journey, discuss its practices, and share emerging themes on building sustainable education systems.

Representing Malawi, Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM) Programs Manager, Linice Sanga, took the stage to share powerful insights from Malawi’s education experience. She stressed the importance of engaging with local context as a key factor in driving transformation, noting that meaningful change must be rooted in the realities of learners, teachers, and communities.

In her remarks, she emphasized five critical priorities for sustainable systems change: strengthening community voice, building broad-based commitment across the education ecosystem, promoting flexibility and complementarity for policy and practice coherence, securing stable financial resourcing, and investing in coordination for collective action. Her message reinforced CRECCOM’s belief that transformation is only possible when communities are active partners, not passive recipients.

The participation of CRECCOM in this global dialogue amplified Malawi’s voice on the world stage and positioned the organization as a thought leader in shaping education systems that are inclusive, sustainable, and resilient.

The work of NEST is made possible through the institutional backbone of the Center for Universal Education (CUE) at Brookings, which provides coordination and financial oversight.
