Objective of the Assignment

The objective of the study is to learn about the potential of the She Creates Change videos and lesson plans in enhancing life skills and gender knowledge and attitudes among secondary school students.


The local firm or consultant team is equipped with at least 5 members, including one Team Leader (female preferred), and four enumerators (at least 2 female preferred).

Background

Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) is a Malawi-based non-governmental organization (NGO) which was established on 4th April 1999 and is registered with the Government of Malawi under the Trustees Incorporation Act (Cap. 5:03) of the Laws of Malawi.  It is reputed for implementing community mobilization interventions in areas of Institutional Development, Inclusive Quality Education, Child Protection and Youth Development, Gender and Women Empowerment, Health Lives and Improved Well-being for all, Climate Change Resilience, Policy Influence and Social Accountability. CRECCOM’s vision is to have a resilient, equitable society with self-motivated citizens responsive to the ever-changing world for the betterment of their welfare.  CRECCOM’s Mission is to mobilize and empower communities and other stakeholders towards full ownership of development initiatives through their effective involvement and participation. CRECCOM is piloting the She Creates Change lifeskills initiative in partnership with the Girls Activist Youth Organization (GAYO) with support from Room to Read. The She Creates Change project is being implemented in Mchinji, Mulanje and Thyolo.


She Creates Change

Complementing the life skills curriculum, She Creates Change (SCC) is a multimedia storytelling initiative, spanning an award-winning animated and live action film, illustrated books and audio stories. The stories showcased through SCC explore subjects such as financial literacy, climate justice, gender justice and decision making. The six SCC videos and materials encourage viewers and readers to critically reflect upon gender equality and life skills in their contexts. The SCC stories are inspirational and aim to facilitate reflection on one’s aspirations and possibilities.


Scope of Work

CRECCOM is seeking a Local Firm or Consultant team that will be responsible for administering a qualitative evaluation on the acceptability, feasibility and effectiveness of the She Creates Change videos and lesson plans implemented as part of the She Creates Change lifeskills pilot initiative. The Local Firm/ Consultant team will collaborate closely with the CRECCOM Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to undertake key informant interviews (KIIs) with teachers and focus group discussions (FGDs) with students in four schools. The Firm or Consultant team will also interview teachers in the same schools and conduct KIIs with members of the CRECCOM and GAYO project team as part of the endline evaluation.  The evaluation will be conducted in September/October 2025 in 4 schools in Mulanje, Thyolo, and 2 schools in Mchinji. At each school, the consultant will conduct 2 focus group discussions and 2 KIIs. This assignment is expected to take 8-14 days. In addition, a total of 3 stakeholders per partner organization will be interviewed in this study.


Requested Services

The local firm or consultant team will be expected to do the following in close collaboration with the MERL Specialist at CRECCOM

  1. Develop a work plan

  2. Train the enumerators

  3. Collect data

  4. Conduct debriefing meetings daily and document success

  5. Report writing

  6. Dissemination of findings to CRECCOM and GAYO, and government officials

 

Required Qualifications

Members of the Firm / Consultant team have the following qualifications:

  • Qualitative Research experiences: Strong experience in collecting data from semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions and working with transcription data.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both spoken and written English as well as Chichewa. 

  • Education: Completed a bachelor's degree in data science or another relevant field.

  • Age and Authorization: Must be at least 18 years old and have work authorization in Malawi.

  • Integrity and Ethics: Demonstrates a high level of integrity and understanding, strictly following study data collection procedures and ethical protocols. 

  • Child Protection: Must never have been convicted of any offense related to the exploitation or abuse of a child. CRECCOM will conduct a background check on the consultant on sexual exploitation and Abuse. The hired consultant will be mandated to adhere to CRECCOM’s Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.

  • Availability: Willing and available to travel to all districts in Malawi to collect data in select schools

  • Equipment/Technology: Access to a personal laptop and phone with reliable internet connectivity. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, able to effectively engage with stakeholders ranging from school children, and parents to schoolteachers and internal colleagues.
