Increased Early Grade Literacy through teacher/guardian Empowerment with inclusive Education approaches (Tiwaphunzitse)

The overall goal of the project is to promote equitable access to education through improving early grade literacy of learners with disabilities and strengthening the quality, governance and management of the education sector in line with the Malawi National Strategy on Inclusive Education 2017-2021 and Priority Area 1: Quality, Accessible and Equitable Basic Education of the Malawi National Education Policy (NEP)

Impact area

· 3 districts namely: Mulanje, Nsanje and Zomba.

· 6 education zones. Mulanje (Limbuli & Ntata zones), Nsanje (Mlonda & Mpatsa zones), Zomba (Ntonda & Chimwalira zones)


Primary targets: 600 pre-school boys and girls (aged 3 to 5) and 4,800 early grade (standards 1 to 2) boys and girls (aged 6 to 7), including those with disabilities.

Tiwaphunzitse project implementing partners include the Malawi government (In the arms of education; gender, sports, labour, youth and man power development, local government and community development); Other key partners are: Malawi Institute of Education

Domasi College of Education, Machinga Teacher Training College, Experts trained under EGRA and the National Reading Program,The Department of Teacher Education and Development, MIE Domasi, and Nalikule Colleges of Education
