About the organisation and the role


CRECCOM is part of a consortium implementing a Government of Malawi Project called Climate Resilient Health and Wellbeing in Southern Malawi. The goal of the project is to reduce direct and indirect climate change risks to health, including risks associated with (i) the increase in food, vector, and water-borne diseases (e.g., malaria, schistosomiasis, aflatoxins, cholera), (ii) risks of malnutrition due to dependence on rainfed agriculture and impact on production and food security and (iii) the limited capacity of water and sanitation and community health facility infrastructure to withstand shocks. The project will be implemented in Zomba, Phalombe, Machinga, Mangochi, Balaka, and Ntcheu districts from 1st June 2025 to 30th March 2030.


CRECCOM is looking for creative, dynamic, competent, and self-motivated persons to fill the following vacant position (s).


Community Mobilizers (12 Positions)

Location: Mangochi, Balaka, Ntcheu, Zomba, Machinga and Phalombe (2 positions per district)

Duration of the Contract: 1 year, renewable upon performance and availability of funds



Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the District Coordinator, the incumbent’s core duties will include:

Community Engagement and Mobilization

  • Building and sustaining strong relationships with chiefs, community members and local structures, including the Area Development Committee (ADC), Area Disaster Risk Management Committee (ADRMC), Community Health Action Groups (CHAGs), Area Nutrition Coordinating Committee (ANCC), Health Centre Management Committee (HCMC) and all relevant structures.

  • Ensuring active and inclusive participation of all community segments (especially women, youth, and vulnerable groups) in project planning, implementation, and monitoring activities related to climate resilience and health.

  • Supporting activities by community volunteers/groups/structures and providing coaching and technical guidance to ensure institutional capacity to sustain the program.

  • Clearly and consistently communicating project goals, activities, and expected benefits to the communities in local language.

  • Ensuring that community mobilization activities take into account all Child safeguarding measures before and during implementation of activity.

 

Support for Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC)

  • Directly supporting and facilitating all planned SBCC interventions, including:

    • Organizing and leading sessions (Community dialogues) that allow community members to express concerns, share knowledge, and collectively agree on behavioral changes.

    • Conducting targeted home visits to reinforce key SBCC messages, providing personalized advice, and addressing specific household barriers to adopting new practices.

    • Identifying and engaging role models (early adopters of change) to inspire adoption of positive behaviours amongst community members.

    • Keeping and maintaining records for all IEC materials, received and being used in the community.

  • Tracking and documenting changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices within the community as a result of the SBCC interventions.

 

Coordination and Collaboration

 

  • Ensuring enhanced collaboration and coordination with various extension workers (e.g., AEHOs, HSA, CDAs, CPWs, AEDCs, PEAs) operating in the community. This includes joint planning, execution of activities, and mutual sharing of data and resources.

  • Participating in meetings by community structures and providing project updates to all for accountability.

  • Linking community structures and members with relevant district-level services and technical support from extension departments.

  • Working to blend project activities with existing government and non-governmental initiatives at the community level to avoid duplication and maximize impact.

 

Monitoring, Reporting, and Accountability

  • Coordinating formulation of project activity plans by preparing monthly and quarterly work plans for project activities

  • Collecting and documenting quantitative and qualitative data on project progress, community participation rates, SBCC activity attendance, and adoption of GCF-supported interventions.

  • Compiling and submitting regular, timely, and accurate progress reports to the District Officers, highlighting achievements, challenges encountered, and lessons learned.

  • Managing and accounting for any funds or resources entrusted to them for community-level activities, adhering strictly to project financial guidelines.

  • Collecting feedback from the community regarding project implementation and channel it upwards to the District Officers to ensure a responsive and adaptive project approach.


Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes/Specifications

  • A minimum of a diploma in Social Work, Community development, Agriculture, Education or other related field with least two years’ community mobilization experience.

  • At least three years of relevant experience in gender and community mobilization.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with other partners by implementing similar projects.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously under pressure and with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds.

  • Experience and capacity in community mobilization.

  • Self-starter.

  • Strong intra and interpersonal skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ready to work even during odd hours and with minimum supervision

  • Prudent financial management.

  • Licensed to ride a motorcycle
