Mary is happy to be back to school
Mary Saizi is a 15-year-old girl from Jordan Village, Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje district. Mary got pregnant after being in a relationship with a guy from the same village when she was in standard five in 2019.
“I used to deny his proposal at first but I, later on, accepted his proposal and got pregnant,” said Mary.
After Mary’s parents realized that she is pregnant, Mary said that the parents chased her out of their house to go and be living with the boy who got her pregnant
“My parents were not happy that I got pregnant as they did not expect such instance to happen in my life,” said Mary
Mary said that the mother group from Likhubula primary school came to Mary’s house and met her parents after noticing her absence at school. The mother group and the headteacher from Likhubula primary school encouraged the parents on the importance of education and that after delivering the baby, she should return to school. Mary said she wants to become a nurse after finishing her education.
“I will work hard by focusing on my education to prevent myself from dropping out of school,” said Mary.
