Internal Vacancy Advert - CBM Project Officer

CRECCOM in partnership with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) is implementing a 3 year project known as Increased Early Grade Literacy of Learners with Disability Through Empowering Teachers and Guardians Project (Tiwaphunzitse) Project under the umbrella of Christian Blind Mission in two districts of Malawi – Zomba and Mulanje.

 

The goal of the project is: -

  • To promote equitable access to education through improving early grade literacy of learners with disabilities and strengthening the quality, governance and management of the education sector in line with the Malawi National Strategy on Inclusive Education 2017-2021 and Priority Area 1: Quality, Accessible and Equitable Basic Education of the Malawi National Education Policy (NEP).
     

Specifically, the project will

  1.  Enhance the capacity of teachers to adapt instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments related to early-grade literacy for learners' diverse needs

  2. Build the capacity of parents, families, and communities to effectively support the removal of barriers to learning, participation, attendance and learning outcomes for all learners including those with disabilities.​
     

CRECCOM is implementing the Tiwaphunzitse project in two zones in Zomba, and Mulanje districts. The project will target 4800 learners aged 3 to 7 years.

CRECCOM would like to engage suitably a qualified person, under the Increased Early Grade Literacy of Learners with Disability Through Empowering Teachers and Guardians (Tiwaphunzitse) Project, to fill the following vacant position:


Project Officer - 1 Position tenable in Zomba

DUTIES

Reporting to the Program Manager, the incumbent’s core duties will include: -

  • Linking with the Ministry of Education officials in designing CPD materials for teachers in targeted zones and districts

  • Implementing community mobilization activities

  • Supporting CBCCs in coming up with play materials for learners including learners with disabilities

  • Mobilizing communities to establish play centres for learners 

  • Monitor the involvement of parents in ECD and primary school activities

  • Working with CBCC center management committees in mobilizing communities toward supporting the CBCCs

  • Supporting the capacity development of the caretakers and primary school teachers

  • Documenting lessons, success stories, and human-interest stories 

  • Facilitating the stocking of community reading center book banks including mobile libraries.

  • Produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity reports including budgets.

  • Contributing to the internal review and feedback processes related to the program

  • Collecting and reviewing monitoring tools and plans for community volunteers.

  • Organizing role modelling sessions involving ECD centres and primary schools 

  • Supporting field workers in facilitating community-based activities and provide coaching and technical guidance to ensure institutional capacity to sustain the program.

  • Facilitating synergy and networking with implementing district-level partners.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must have a Degree in Education, Humanities, and any other development-related degree

  • 3 years’ experience working in an NGO. 

  • Ability to ride a motorcycle, with a valid motorcycle driver's licence.
