LINKING YOUTH FORUMS WITH COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND TEVET

In an effort to further enhance employability skills, CRECCOM aims at linking the 36 impact CDSSs that it worked with under Improving Education Quality in Community Day Secondary Schools (IEQ-CDSS) project funded by Mastercard Foundation and Echidna Giving with the TEVET colleges in all the 4 impact districts namely Mulanje, Thyolo, Ntchisi and Chitipa districts.

CRECCOM officers are visiting the community colleges in the impact district and those within the catchment area of the 36 impact schools to brief them on the project objectives and negotiate on collaboration. The project envisions that the linkages will provide career opportunities and guidance on the available pathways for girls and boys on TEVET. Through the collaboration, CRECCCOM is facilitating the visits by TEVET district desk officer into the schools. The aim of the visit is to interact with the youth forum members and sell out the courses offered and motivate the youth towards enrolling for TEVET skills training. Once linked with TEVET, students will secure places at TEVET Community Colleges.

In order to expose and inspire the CDSSs learners, CRECCOM in collaboration with the community colleges is facilitating identification of, engage and utilize community-based role models who through skills acquired from community colleges are making a living.
The role models are visiting the impact schools to share their stories on skills obtained and business management skills and the benefits to their lives.

CRECCOM envisions that the activity will motivate more students to take up vocational skills as a viable livelihood pathway.
