Rajab established a Football Barbershop

Rajab Simeon from Mwapata village, Group Village Head Mwalwa, Traditional Authority Mlomba was trained on Barbershop Tool Kit by Creative Centre for Community Mobilization  (CRECCOM) under Spotlight Male Engagement Project funded by European Union.

I gained understanding on different types of sexual related gender-based violence that prompted me to establish a football barbershop for Chirwa Football Club,” said Simeon.

I am a football player for Chirwa FC and for every football match that we have, we do meet after the football match and discuss ways of treating well women and girls in the homesteads,” said Simeon.

Simeon said that the barbershop started with 21 members who meet after a football match. An example of issues discussed include abuse by men by not providing food for the home.

CRECCOM Community Mobilization Officer, Bvulumende, said that the barbershop toolkit approach involves engaging community leaders who engage with existing social groups where men and boys occupy or socialize.
