‘Had it been it was not for CRECCOM IEQ-CDSS project, probably I would have dropped out of school’. Said Sandikonda Kabambe a form 3 student at Lipho CDSS. Sandikonda, hails from Gunda Mwala village, T/A Nsabwe in Thyolo district. He was enrolled for form 1 in 2017 but had no passion for school. Sandikonda said that he never worked hard in class and he used to abscond classes for piece works and catching fish in Ruo river. His life changed when CRECCOM started implementing a project known as Improving Quality Education in CDSS at Lipho Community Day Secondary School. IQECDSS is a project being funded by Echidna Giving and Master Card International.
‘I never passed for two consecutive terms in form one because I was attending classes occasionally. Things changed when I joined the Youth Forum for IEQ CDSS and was chosen to be a facilitator for the boys’ forum.’ Sandikonda, said that the topics in the Facilitators’ manual book and the training he received as a facilitator helped him to change his way of doing things. He said that he was helped to set goals and to become assertive. In addition, he said he received a book and a lamp from the Better World Trust, which motivated him more, and instilled a reading culture in him such that he loved studying. ‘I started working hard, since then, I never failed again. I always maintain position top 3 positions in class and even my English has improved. Said Sandikonda whose goal is to become an electrical engineer.
