Reverend Misheck Nkubadzala of Mbenjere C.C.A.P church has appreciated the Spotlight Male Engagement project, a Spotlight Initiative, at Traditional Authority (T/A) Kawinga in Machinga district.

Spotlight Initiative is a global European Union – United Nations (EU-UN) partnership aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls, and other harmful practices.

The project is being implemented by Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) has trained over 30 community leaders including Reverend Nkumbadzala from Traditional Authority Kawinga with an aim of promoting positive masculinities for male engagement on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Reverend Nkumbadzala said that his church did not know different ways of fighting against gender-based violence which led to different cases of violence in his church.

Nkumbadzala said awareness of gender-based violence messages in his church have been achieved through the Spotlight initiative by CRECCOM.

“Men and boys meet soon after our Sunday service at 2:30pm in the afternoon to discuss different ways of curding gender-based violence in their families”

CRECCOM’s male Engagement Program Officer Dan Tewesa said the project has involved men and boys from Kawinga area so that they should act as agents of change to discuss how to reduce gender-based violence in their communities using the Barbershop Toolkit.
