Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM) trained the committee in 2019 to take care of the school’s developmental affairs. Some of the lessons that the committee got from the training had to do with motivating students to pass their national examinations.
The organisation is implementing Improving Education Quality in Community Day Secondary School (IEQCDSS) Project funded by MasterCard Foundation and Echidna Giving in the district.
After the training, the committee developed an action plan to guide them on their activities.
One of such activities involved motivating best performing learners. Committee member Mr Mkwezalamba said they wanted the students to be selected to university. That is in 2019 the committee took 20 learners (15 boys and five girls) on an education visit to KIA.
At KIA, the students learned the operations at the facility and were inspired by female pilots. The committee mobilised K260 000 for the motivation trip.
Pemphero Kazima, Form Three student, said the trip motivated her to work hard in school.
“I was encouraged to work hard in English, Physics, Mathematics and Geography to become a pilot,” she said.
