Spotlight Initiative Male Engagement Malawi Program. (1 March 2020 – 28 February 2021).

Goal: to accelerate efforts towards the elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG), including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and other harmful practices, by addressing their structural roots and linkages to sexual and reproductive health and rights

Objectives

  1. To strengthen Chiefs Forums in Paramount Chief Kawinga to monitor implementation of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV)/ Harmful Practices (HP) and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) laws, policies, programs, services, including for those most marginalized and excluded;
  2. To scale up promotion of positive masculinities for male engagement on Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) and SRHR through implementation of the male engagement operational guide
  3. Scale up and institutionalizing the operational guidelines for male engagement for SGBV/HP, SRHR, and HIV, and gender equality, using the same male engagement group formed/strengthened;
  4. To support the development of community scorecards, opinion polls and grievance and redress structures and other social accountability mechanisms for SGBV/HP, SRHR related reporting and monitoring.

 

District: Machinga in Paramount Chief Kawinga

Targeting:  41 village heads, 20 male counsellors to address SGBV/HP and SRHR in the initiation institutions, 24 male village forum facilitators to spearhead community-based project activities

 Status: The preliminary project activities like Area Development Committee meeting, District Gender Technical Working Group and review of training materials have been done.

Under the same Spotlight Initiative, CRECCOM is sub granting and carrying out organizational development interventions to Foundation for Civic Education and Social Empowerment (FOCESE), Forum for Youth Development (FOYODE) and Ntchisi Organization for Youth and Development (NOYD) who are also implementing male engagement component in Nsanje, Machinga and Ntchisi respectively.
